The fashion industry is rapidly changing to account for more ethical transparency, environmental accountability, and technological advancements. Each year Rightfully Sewn invites local, regional, and national industry thought leaders to inspire and connect to fashion designers, manufacturers, educators, influencers, and apparel consumers of all ages in our community through our Fashion Forward Series. Lauren Downing Peters, PhD, Assistant Professor of Fashion Studies, Columbia College Chicago

Dr. Downing Peters writes and teaches about the history and culture of plus-size fashion at Columbia College in Chicago, and is Editor-in-Chief for The Fashion Studies Journal, New York, NY. Her degrees include: Washington University in St. Louis (St. Louis, MO) for a Bachelor of Arts, Double-Majoring in Art History and Anthropology (2006-2010); Parsons School of Design, The New School (New York, NY) for a Master of Arts in Fashion Studies (2010-2012); Centre for Fashion Studies, Stockholm University (Stockholm, Sweden) for a Doctor of Philosophy in Fashion Studies (2013-2018).

Dr. Downing Peters will speak about: designing for inclusivity, thinking beyond standardized sizing, and more!
