INTERMEDIATE SEWING — SUMMER NIGHTS DRESS: Pt 2 of 2

  • Rightfully Sewn (Interim Location) 7501 Prospect Avenue Kansas City, MO, 64132 United States (map)

Part 2 of a 2 class course; you have to purchase SUMMER NIGHTS DRESS PACKAGE to participate.

Skill level: Intermediate

Prerequisite skills: Must have taken a beginner sewing class with us at Rightfully Sewn or have 2+ years prior sewing experience.

It’s a balmy Summer night in Kansas City, you’re going out on the town and you’re feeling fabulous – but what do you wear? Sew a timeless piece with Rightfully Sewn and always have the right dress to throw on for nights just like this.

Only 6 places!

Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers.

Students will:

Discuss the design and their ideas for their dress with the instructor,

Cut and sew a bias-cut, cowl neck spaghetti-strap summer dress to your custom length,

Learn about bias-cut garments and why and when they’re used,

Brush up on basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction

Receive education on more advanced techniques like how to work with silky, bias-cut fabrics and turn spaghetti straps,

Receive a complimentary Rightfully Sewn sewing pattern for a timeless dress which can be adjusted to various lengths.

NOTE: This is a 2-week course due to the design of the dress being sewn and the garment’s requirement of “hanging time” between sessions. This is an Intermediate class and will require some preparation on the part of the student. Students are required to take their own measurements prior to class and send them to programs@rightfullysewn.org at least a week before the class so that a pattern may be prepared in the proper size. Students will need to purchase fabric for this project, as it is a more personalized piece. Have fun with it! Material details and parameters will be provided after purchase.

All sewing tools will be provided by Rightfully Sewn Academy and it's donors in order to promote and encourage a sustainable future in the fashion industry.

This class is taught by one of our talented Academy Instructors.
