INTERMEDIATE SEWING: UPCYCLED SWEATER MITTENS

  • Rightfully Sewn (Interim Location) 7501 Prospect Ave Kansas City United States (map)

Prerequisite: Intermediate sewing skills

This will be our final class collab of the year with Magpie Creative Reuse Collective, but don’t worry, there will be more to come in the future! This class, taught by upcycler Karen Sullivan from Sully’s Mitten Co , is a sew along workshop where she will walk you through the easy-to-follow instructions for cutting & sewing a pair of eco-friendly, fleece lined, wool mittens. And because we know you will become addicted; you will go home with a sewing pattern so you can make as many mittens as your heart desires. Plus, these mittens are great to give as gifts with the cold weather starting to come in!

What you should bring/do for the class:

- One to two sweaters that have a minimum of 80% wool content. If you don’t have one in your closet, you can hunt at the thrift store, or Karen will be bringing some that you can purchase for $8.

-Sweaters will need to be felted (washed). You will get easy tips ahead of time from Karen on how to felt your sweater.

-We will have thread available in the academy but feel free to bring thread to match your sweater.

-You can also bring any cuff embellishments you want, but we will have a selection of buttons available for you to pick from in the academy.

-Karen will provide pre-cut fleece liners & Rightfully Sewn will supply all other materials and tools.
