Does your favorite pair of jeans have a few too many holes? Do you have a garment that is worn out but so beloved you just can’t bring yourself to throw it away? Bring Your Own Project and learn mending & hand sewing techniques to make it wearable again. Plus, hand sewing can be done anywhere. Whether you’re wanting a portable sewing method, to sew something small, mend a garment, refine your garment finishes, or take a historical sewing approach — this is the class to get you started!
Join us for a hands-on introductory course that will teach you the basic and most vital stitches done by hand. You will also learn the foundational skills for mending your own clothes, making patches from thread only, and using a fabric patch & decorative embroidery to make that worn-out item wearable again, This class is perfect for all levels, from those new to a needle and thread, to those looking to increase their sewing skillset!

Students will:
Learn basics of hand sewing, including vocabulary, how to thread a needle and how to start and end a stitch;
Learn the most common and important hand stitches, as well as their names and when to use them;
Learn basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction; and
Learn how to make a thread patch to mend holes in garments
Learn how to use embroidery techniques to secure patches on garments
Mend and update a damaged garment from your own closet to make something beautiful and wearable again! Bring an item you want to mend!
All sewing tools will be provided by Rightfully Sewn Academy and it's donors in order to promote and encourage a sustainable future in the fashion industry. A supplies list will be provided for students to bring their own supplies to class, if desired.
