BEGINNER SEWING: SWEATSHIRT BLANKET

Do you have extra sweatshirts & sweaters taking up space around the house?

Bring them in for this easy beginner project and sew a cozy lap blanket to keep you warm this chilly winter! In this hands-on introductory course, we will teach you the foundational skills needed to construct simple textile items including home goods and apparel. This class is perfect for the aspiring sewist who is curious to try sewing or the self-taught sewist who would like to increase their knowledge and technical skill set.

PLEASE BRING 5 OR MORE SWEATSHIRTS FOR THE BLANKET.

Students will work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines and Janome and Babylock home sergers.

Students will:

  • Cut and sew a sweatshirt blanket,

  • Learn sewing vocabulary, including sewing machine parts and apparel construction terminology;

  • Learn how to thread and operate a conventional sewing machine, including troubleshooting common issues;

  • Receive instruction on how to patchwork materials

  • Learn basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction; and

  • Receive a complimentary Rightfully Sewn sewing pattern to continue sewing at home.

All sewing tools will be provided by Rightfully Sewn Academy and its donors in order to promote and encourage a sustainable future in the fashion industry.
