Do you want an entry-level lesson on sewing and garment construction? Do you want an entry-level lesson on sewing and garment construction?
Join us for a hands-on introductory course that will teach you the foundational skills needed to construct simple textile items including home goods and apparel. This class is perfect for the aspiring sewist who is curious to try sewing or the self-taught sewist who would like to increase their knowledge and technical skill set.

Students will:
Cut and sew a pair of socks & a beanie with upcycled sweaters, sweatshirts, old fleece blankets, or any thick knit material from home or a thrift store,
Decorate & embellish the socks & beanie with buttons, beads, and more.
Work on Janome HD-3000 and School Mate 7330 straight-stitch home sewing machines
Learn sewing vocabulary, including sewing machine parts and apparel construction terminology;
Learn how to thread and operate a conventional sewing machine, including troubleshooting common issues;
Receive instruction on how to read a sewing pattern;
Learn basic techniques to create sewn products, including how to pin and cut fabric and order of operations for construction; and
Receive a complimentary Rightfully Sewn sewing pattern to continue sewing at home.
All sewing tools will be provided by Rightfully Sewn Academy and its donors in order to promote and encourage a sustainable future in the fashion industry. Rightfully Sewn has fabric available for you to use, but if you want to bring in your own fabric or upcycle any fabric from home (ex: sweaters, sweatshirts, old fleece blankets, or any thick knit material), feel free to do so!
